About Bulgaria
Situated in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, Bulgaria boasts an old and rich history. Thracians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Slavs and Bulgarians inhabited this land in their time, leaving behind monuments and enriching the world's treasure-house of culture.
Bulgaria occupies 111 000 square km and has a population of about 8 million. Bulgaria's capital is the city of Sofia. Bulgaria is divided into two parts by the Balkan mountain, and also borders Black sea in the east, Romania in the north, Turkey and Greece in the south, Serbia&Montenegro and Macedonia in the west.
The official language is Bulgarian, spoken by about 90 percent of the population. Turkish is the largest minority language.
In 2008 the interests of investors was directed to the real estate market in the small regional centres due to the construction boom in them. Unlike big cities, where there is shortage of construction plots, the smaller cities still have terrains open for development. A dynamic real estate market in those regions is expected in 2009. A further stabilization of the real estate market and its further segmentation is expected this year. The prices of real estate properties will increase little by little and the growth will be within 10-15% for 2009, but the greatest increase will be in the prices of luxury properties.
According to the Bulgarian Act on Foreign Investment, foreigners are allowed to buy only buildings. This means that you can buy an apartment very easily. -
